Paintings & prints: “for daily use”

Heike Munser’s art is about banal, utilitarian things that we use by the day, rarely paying them much attention. But if we only look more closely, we will discover beauty in these everyday items: bottle tops, measuring tape, brushes for hair, nails and clothes, cigarette packets, kitchen gadgets, crockery and office equipment.Things we are unwilling or unable to do without. The artist is fascinated by materials and visual effects. She feels a deep affinity for the use value of things that have sometimes been functioning well for generations.

Other motifs are seed racks from the garden, toys from days long forgotten, and anything to do with table culture. A beautifully laid table is an invitation, welcomes friends to a good meal, expresses how much we are looking forward to it, and beckons to us to engage in conversation and exchange.
